The documentary received Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking, Outstanding Achievement in Direction (Joshua Oppenheimer), and Outstanding Achievement in Production (Signe Byrge Sørensen).

The film is the companion piece to Oppenheimer and Sørensen's The Act of Killing, which won the 2004 Cinema Eye awards for outstanding feature and production.
