Executive Vice President, Marketing

Buffy Shutt joined Participant Media as Executive Vice President of Marketing in January 2007. Prior to that, she was a consultant for Participant, helping to guide the company through its first successes with Good Night and Good Luck, Syriana and the global phenomenon of An Inconvenient Truth.

Buffy first met her longtime business partner and friend, Kathy Jones, when they both worked in Paramount Pictures in New York City. By the end of her stint at Paramount, Buffy had worked her way through the ranks to the post of President of Marketing.

In 1989 Buffy joined Columbia Pictures, where she was named President of Marketing, eventually becoming responsible for TriStar Pictures marketing as well.

In 1994, Buffy joined Universal Pictures and took the then-unusual title of co-President of Marketing. Two years later, Buffy was recognized by Women in Film with its highest honor, the Crystal Award, and served on their board for several years.

In 1998, Buffy ventured into independent production at Universal and, with Imagine Entertainment, produced Blue Crush.

Buffy is co-author with Kate Klimo of Coming of Age… All Over Again, a non-fiction book published by Time-Warner Books now in bookstores. Ms. Shutt has published two novels. She contributed to Design Research: Methods and Perspectives published by MIT Press.
