Courtney Sexton

Director, Documentary Production

Courtney Sexton was named Director, Documentary Production in July, 2005.  Her duties include supporting Documentary Production President Diane Weyermann in managing all Participant projects in production as well as in reviewing all projects submitted to the company for consideration. While at Participant, she has been involved with such projects as THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET, THE ACADEMY AWARD®-WINNING AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, ANGELS IN THE DUST, JIMMY CARTER MAN FROM PLAINS, DARFUR NOW, CHICAGO 10 and STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE.

Before joining Participant, she worked for two years with AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH director Davis Guggenheim on the HBO series "Deadwood," as well as several TV pilots.  Prior to that, she worked extensively in television and feature film production, beginning with the FX series "The Shield."

Courtney received her MSc in Transitioning European Political Economies from the London School of Economics in 2000, and immediately thereafter moved to California, settling in Los Angeles after a year in San Francisco. She is currently a mentor in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program.

My first job: Back home in Indiana, I started working at a young age milking my neighbor’s goats. It seemed completely normal to me at the time.

If you could change one thing about yourself or the world, what would it be? I think Thoreau said it best with “It is never too late to give up our prejudices.”

Who or what serves as your greatest inspiration? My mother and grandmothers are my inspiration. They are responsible for every significant achievement I have made in my life.
