Participant Media Bolster Business And Legal Affairs Team, Promoting Danice Woodley and Stacey Fong, and hiring Jeannine Tang as the department's new Senior Vice Presidents


LOS ANGELES, CA (February 7, 2018) – Participant Media announced today that the company has promoted Danice Woodley and Stacey Fong to Senior Vice Presidents of Business & Legal Affairs, and hired Jeannine Tang for the role of Senior Vice President for Business & Legal Affairs. The trio will oversee all film and television business and legal matters for the Company, with Fong responsible for the development and production of Participant’s film slate, Woodley responsible for the sales and distribution of the film slate, and Tang handling Participant’s television slate, finance, and corporate matters. Digital, marketing, and social impact matters will continue to be overseen by Josh Ludmir, VP of Business and Legal Affairs. All four executives will report to Gabriel Brakin, General Counsel and EVP of Business Affairs for Participant Media, who made the announcement today.

As an industry content leader, Participant produces annually up to six narrative feature films, five documentary films, three episodic television series, and more than 40 hours of digital short form programming, through its digital subsidiary SoulPancake—all aimed at entertainment that inspires social awareness and engaging audiences to participate in positive social change. The department’s newly structured team will handle all business and legal matters for the Company’s extensive content slate.

Woodley joined Participant Media in March of 2015 handling the business and legal matters for the Company’s films as Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. During this time, Woodley oversaw development, production and distribution matters for various Narrative and Documentary projects including Denial, Wonder, Human Flow, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, and upcoming releases Far From the Tree, America to Me, Captive State and On the Basis of Sex. Prior to joining Participant, Woodley served as Senior Counsel of Business and Legal Affairs for Miramax from 2012 to 2015. Before that, she was counsel for legal affairs at NBCUniversal, where she advised business affairs executives for the company’s various network divisions. Woodley began her career in the Entertainment, Sports and Media Group at O'Melveny and Myers, LLP.

 Fong began as Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs with Participant Media in April of 2016, handling business and legal affairs activity for the Company’s films. Since joining Participant, Fong oversaw development, production and distribution matters for various Narrative and Documentary projects including A Fantastic Woman, and upcoming releases Kailash, Aquarela, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, 7 Days in Entebbe, Roma and Green Book. Prior to Participant, Fong was Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs at Relativity Media, handling development, production and acquisitions. Before that, she was at Disney, where she started out in the international acquisition and distribution division, before working on the development and production of Disney local-language productions.

Tang was hired by Participant in January of 2018, having previously served as the Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at The Weinstein Company. She began her entertainment career in creative development. At DreamWorks Animation, she collaborated in developing films including the Shrek franchise, Kung Fu Panda and Shark Tale; later at Sony Pictures Animation she transitioned to production on the film Surf's Up. After several years in creative, Tang attended UC Berkeley School of Law where she specialized in intellectual property law. After law school, she practiced at O'Melveny and Myers, LLP in the Entertainment, Sports and Media Group, primarily focusing on film and television with an emphasis on complex copyright and film financing. She represented a wide range of clients including investors, production companies, producers and motion picture studios.

Participant recently made several high-profile announcements during the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, including the co-acquisition of documentary feature RBG with Magnolia Pictures, as well as a distribution deal with Starz for director Steve James’ 10-part docuseries America to Me, and the unveiling of a new four-part virtual reality series titled, This is Climate Change, to be distributed by WITHIN.

Participant’s upcoming film slate includes 7 Days in Entebbe, from José Padilha and Working Title; Rupert Wyatt’s Captive State; Rachel Dretzin’s documentary Far From the Tree, based on the best-selling book by Andrew Solomon; the feature-length documentary Kailash, from director Derek Doneen and produced by Davis Guggenheim; Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind; On the Basis of Sex, from director Mimi Leder and starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer; and Peter Farrelly’s Green Book, starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. The company is also expanding into television with America to Me, which premiered at Sundance to wide audience and critical acclaim, and the limited scripted drama series Central Park Five, directed by Ava DuVernay, which will be released through Netflix.
